All About Polka Dot
Polka Dot Pottery Studio was founded by artist Grayson Toal, but its story began long before its doors ever opened—in a colorful studio filled with paint, creativity, and community.
In 1998, Grayson's mom, Alicia Toal, opened Dish It Out Pottery Studio in Charlotte, North Carolina. Grayson and her siblings grew up surrounded by pottery, learning the ins and outs of the business from an early age, and each began working at the studio when they were 14 years old.
After calling Wilmington home for the past 10 years, Grayson decided it was time to bring that same creative experience to the community she loves. Polka Dot Pottery Studio is a continuation of her mom's legacy, built on the belief that creativity should be welcoming, fun, and shared with everyone.

At Polka Dot, our goal is to create a space where anyone can walk in, sit down, and make something meaningful. We also strive to be a place where life's special celebrations unfold and lasting memories are made. No experience is necessary—just time set aside from the outside world to slow down, create, and leave with something you can hold onto for years to come.
We offer over 800 pottery shapes, from everyday functional pieces to playful, one-of-a-kind forms. There’s truly something for everyone.
Whether you’re here for a quiet afternoon, a birthday celebration, or a spontaneous stop-in, we’re here to make the experience easy, relaxed, and memorable. And for those visiting from afar, we’re happy to ship your finished pieces so you can take a bit of Wilmington home with you.
